She came when it was dark
John 20:1 The first day of the week came Mary Magdalene, early, when it was dark, unto the sepulcher...
John 20:1 tells us that Mary started toward the tomb when it was dark. There was a pressing in her heart, she could not wait until morning light to go to the tomb and anoint the body of the one she loved so much. So she either lit a candle or a lamp and began her journey toward the tomb in the dark.
Reflecting upon this thought, I believe this darkness can represent those seasons in our life when the promises of God seem to be cloaked by darkness. When they seem to be buried behind bleakness. God has spoken a promise to our heart, and when the Word first came there was such a light and a hope. Now they are so hard to see and even harder to believe because something has come and cast a dark, ominous shadow over them.
Yet, here is what the Lord is speaking today: even though all appears dark, there is still an empty tomb that declares, Jesus is victor! Though all looks lost and despairing, there is still an empty sepulcher that declares, Jesus is Lord over the impossible!
Brothers and sisters, the empty tomb is the foundation our hope sits upon because the empty tomb is God's declaration, If I can triumph over death and the grave, I can triumph over everything in your life.
If the Lord has promised to bring life into a place of spiritual barrenness, or freedom into a place of captivity, the empty tomb declares, The Lord is able! With God nothing is impossible.
What dark shroud has been cast over your promise? What death? What disappointment? What despair? Always remember behind that wall of darkness is an empty tomb that is declaring, If I can triumph over death and the grave, there is no promise I cannot resurrect in your life.
Praise be to God.
