Isaiah 17
Hi friends. Today I am writing about the Isaiah 17 prophecy. I want to say right off the bat that I am not very familiar with everything involved in this prophecy. However, I have begun familiarizing myself with it since it could very well be the next major bible prophecy fulfilled. As I study and learn more about this prophecy, I will share more.
Before I go into the prophecy I do want to say a couple of things.
First I want to say Isaiah 17 can look pretty scary. Like so many other prophecies we see being fulfilled in current events, it can look downright frightening. However, I do have words of encouragement at the end of this blog that I would like to share. I believe they will encourage you as Saints called and anointed by the Lord for these specific days we are living in.
Secondly, it never brings me any joy to talk about a tragic event that is going to end lives. It only burdens my heart to pray for the people involved, that God would first pour out His Spirit and many would be saved before the event happens. We can't stop these prophetic events from happening because they have already been recorded in God's annals, not to mention our bibles. However, we can love the people and pray earnestly for them.
Isaiah 17:1, 9 A prophecy against Damascus: "See, Damascus will no longer be a city but will become a heap of ruins...In that day their strong cities, which they left because of the Israelites, will be like places abandoned to thickets and undergrowth. And all will be desolation."
Isaiah 17 prophesies the total destruction of the city of Damascus. We know this has not happened yet because the bible tells us when this occurs Damascus will be inhabitable. It will be so desolate it will be impossible to rebuild.
Damascus is one of the oldest cities, if not the oldest, to still exist today. It was around when Abraham walked the earth. Today this ancient city is the capital of Syria.
Many eschatologists believe Isaiah 17 will be the next major prophetic event to take place and rightfully so. When looking at the dire conditions going on in the Middle East today, we are there!
For years Israel has conducted bombing raids on the city of Damascus. Iran has continuously used the airports in Damascus and Aleppo to transfer weapons to its proxy, Hezbollah.
However, Isaiah 17 tells us that one day (very soon) Israel will once-and-for-all decimate Damascus.
The Israeli government will come to believe Damascus is so threatening, we have no choice but to wipe her off the map.
What could possibly cause Israel to come to this decision? Well, though Isaiah 17 does not give the particulars, it is not hard to see by what is going on in the Middle East right now, how it could possibly happen. To date, Iran's proxy, Hezbollah, located in Syria on Israel's northern border, has 150,000 rockets and missiles aimed at tiny Israel. Even as we speak Iran is flying Precision Guided Missile parts into Damascus and then shipping them to Hezbollah. If Hezbollah ever gets access to Precision Guided Missiles, that is a game changer. And if Iran decides to help Hezbollah out by having all of its proxies attack Israel all at once, Israel's Iron Dome (defense missile system) will be powerless to stop the barrage of missiles coming against it. Hezbollah's Precision Guided Missiles will find their targets. Israel will face certain annihilation. So before Hezbollah can fully arm itself with PGM's, Israel will have to obliterate Damascus once-and-for-all. With Damascus gone, Iran will find it almost impossible to ship PGMs to Hezbollah.
Well, this is only one possibility in how Isaiah 17 can be fulfilled. Though we don't know for sure what will convince the Israeli government that Damascus needs to be taken out, the bible says it will happen.
Okay Tim, though it is bible prophecy, it is pretty frightening. What are your words of encouragement? By now I could use it.
First of all, the destruction of Damascus is bible prophecy. This event was prophesied around 700 years before Jesus was born. This simply means "God is in control." He knows the future centuries before it happens. Nothing is out of His control. And the One who is in control is our heavenly Father. We are His children and He deeply loves us. Come what may, nothing can pluck us out of His hand. We are eternally secure in His hand.
Secondly, just the fact we have been born into this generation shows the incredible confidence God has placed in us. We were born for such a time as this! In spite of everything going on in our world in these last days, God has chosen us for this generation, to use us for His purposes in these final moments.
Thirdly, We were designed for this end-time generation! In the midst of everything going on, we will fulfill our purpose. We will be a light in the darkness and many will be saved. We will preach the gospel all over the world and many will be saved. We will stand for truth in the midst of all the depravity and deception and many will be saved. We will find our treasures in heaven and not in this world and many will be saved. We will not fail our God-given purpose.
What an incredible honor the Lord has bestowed upon us when He planted us in this end-time generation!
