Living In Hope: John 10:9

                                           A Perfect Fit

Hi everyone. We are going to continue to talk about doors. In my previous blogs we have been looking at how everyday, common, ordinary physical doors are a picture of spiritual doors. There will be times all of us will sense God is about to open a new door for us. Physical doors have a lot to teach us about these new spiritual doors.

So far we have talked about "Doors are connected," "Doors have handles," and "Doors have locks."
Today we are going to talk about, "Doors are made to fit their frames."

Doors are made to fit their frames perfectly. No matter how big or small the door, it has to fit its frame flawlessly. If it does not fit the frame perfectly, then the door will jam and be hard to open. There will be gaps around the door that will cause your heating bill to be high in the winter and your air conditioning bill to be high in the summer. So the door has to fit perfectly in the frame.

Just a very simple thought I have here: A new spiritual door will always fit within the framework of your spiritual calling. In other words, like a door being fashioned for its frame, God is fashioning your character to fit your ministerial calling, whatever that calling is. God knows which specific Christ-like characteristics you are going to need A LOT of in your specific calling and He is really going to work on those specific Christ-like characteristics.

For example, everyone is in need of patience. However, if you are called to be a Pastor, you are going to need tremendous patience. Guess what? Patience is one of the Christ-like virtues the Lord is going to work on A LOT in your life as He is preparing you for that Pastoral calling.

If you are a missionary you are going to need a lot of compassion. Guess what? The Lord is going to surround your life A LOT with hurting people as he is preparing your compassion for the mission field.

Well, by now you get my point. The Lord is always character-building in our lives. The Holy Spirit is always working to develop the character of Christ within our lives. Yet, God knows which Christ-like characteristics we are going to need A LOT of to fit our specific calling and often He will pay special attention to these characteristics. He will work on them A LOT as He prepares us for this calling.

Even as I write this blog I strongly sense God is about to open a new door for me. I can see the hand of the Lord working very strongly in a specific area in my life in order to prepare me for this new door. Though the Lord's work has been painful at times, I am now beginning to see the fruit. I am now beginning see how the Lord has been shaping something very specific in my character to prepare me for this new door. I am both humbled and grateful by the goodness of God.
