The Soon Coming Invasion
Ezekiel 38 and 39 speaks of a war in the last days that obviously has not happened yet. The instigator and leader is called "Gog." Gog is not a man's name but a title, like Czar or Tsar. We know Gog is the leader of Russia because both Daniel and Ezekiel tells us that he comes from the "far North" (Ezekiel 38:6, 15). If you place your finger on Jerusalem and trace it due North, you land in modern Russia. Russia alone occupies the giant region to the "far North" of Jerusalem.
According to Ezekiel, Russia will align with several Islamic countries in the Middle East, the chief nation being Persia which is modern day Iran. (Persia became Iran in 1935, and then the Islamic Republic of Iran in 1979).
Today Russia is Iran's greatest ally, and Iran is Israel's greatest enemy. Isn't it utterly amazing how accurate the bible is?!
So why will Russia and her Islamic allies invade Israel?
1 To seize Israel's land (Ezekiel 38:11, 12) 2 To plunder Israel's wealth (Ezekiel 38:12,13)
3 To annihilate the Jews (Ezekiel 38:11, 12, 16).
So when will this invasion take place?
Ezekiel 38:8, 11, 14 tells us this invasion will take place when Israel is convinced she is secure and there is no need for a strong defense. This will only happen during the beginning of the Tribulation. Daniel 9:27 tells us that the Tribulation begins when the Antichrist establishes a peace treaty that protects Israel from the Islamic nations bent on her destruction. However, this Russian-Iranian alliance will defy the Antichrist and invade Israel. Before the Antichrist can respond, God Himself will supernaturally defend Israel.
3 things will happen in this invasion:
1 Russia and her Islamic allies will be judged. 2 God will prove His faithfulness to His people Israel.
3 God will make His name wonderfully known to the nations throughout the world (Ezekiel 38:16, 23).
The implication is, to the Antichrist's dismay, many people from the nations of the world will turn to God.
So, is this prophecy being fulfilled even as we speak?
It is! Russian President, Vladimir Putin, and Iran's Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, have become great allies. Putin has sold Russia's air defense system to Iran, and Iran has equipped Russia with hundreds of attack drones in Russia's invasion of Ukraine. The stage for the Ezekiel 38 war is being set right in front of our eyes. The Russian-Iranian alliance is growing stronger by the day!
Well, I hope this helps us to understand Russia's place in last day bible prophecy. It is no coincidence she is one of the nations at the center of the world's attention. And the stage is set; everything is in place for her invasion of Israel.
